The Equipment at the Heart of Batley Weather

The equipment at the heart of Batley Weather is a Davis Vantage Pro2 Personal Weather Station.

The image below shows the Integrated Sensor Suite or ISS (not to be confused with the other ISS – the International Space Station)

Of course the ISS can only monitor the weather conditions and to be able to store and display the data the console is also needed.

The ISS and Console is all that is required to monitor the weather and produce a local forecast.

However, a data logger and software is also required if the station is to be connected to a computer.

Add to these items a few more bits of software, a PC and some internet and there we have it.

Winter is almost upon us

The days are still getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping.
It got me to thinking about previous years and whether this year is warmer or colder, wetter or dryer than previous years.

I thought I would look back at previous data and compare the Mean Temperature, Month High and Low and Monthly Rain for each month starting January 2011.

As you can see from the data above 2011 was warmer and dryer on average than 2012.
2013 looks like it will be similar to 2011 for temperature average and rainfall.

I hope you find the British weather as fascinating as I do.

Busy time at Batley Weather

Things have been hectic recently.
As usual I had a busy time at the day job when I took my turn at being Engineer on Call.

I have been meaning to update the web site to the latest php scripts for some time and managed to get it done this weekend.
It was very out of date with a couple of pages not working correctly due to changes made to the sites Batley Weather gathers some of the data from.
I have been trying to keep things going on the fly, but decided I needed to apply all the new script updates in one go.

The good news is there are now some very nice gauges to look at and of course this blog!
The Earthquake data page has also had a makeover and now uses Google Maps.

I still have some tidying up to do which is something I end up doing constantly anyway.

Keep enjoying the site.

Doug
